BMI-Winstat – StatXact Cytel Studio 12

These instructions are how to get Cytel Studio 12 licensed for use on BMI-Winstat. These steps must be followed once for every user that intends to use the program on BMI-Winstat.

Create User Environment Variable

Licensing the program requires the one-time creation of a User Environment variable. Please reach out to User Support Services if you are stuck or need assistance.

  • The first step is to successfully login to the BMI-Winstat Server. Instructions for that can be found here.
  • Open the Windows Search prompt by left-clicking on the magnifying glass icon next to the Start Menu

  • Search for the word “environment” by typing it into the prompt and left-click on the “Edit environment variables for your account”option.
    • This option will not require Administrator permissions. If you are prompted, please go back and choose the correct option.

  • This will bring up the Environment Variables window. Left-Click on the New button to create a new environment variable

  • Type in the variable prompts as shown below, then click OK
    • Variable name: LSHOST
    • Variable value: winstat.biostat.wisc.edu

  • The new environment variable will show at the top of the menu. Click OK to exit this menu.

  • You should now be able to launch StatXact Cytel Studio 12 successfully, without seeing a license error. You will only need to put in this environment variable once. All future logins should retain the variable.
