These instructions are how to get Cytel Studio 12 licensed for use on BMI-Winstat. These steps must be followed once for every user that intends to use the program on BMI-Winstat.
Create User Environment Variable
Licensing the program requires the one-time creation of a User Environment variable. Please reach out to User Support Services if you are stuck or need assistance.
- The first step is to successfully login to the BMI-Winstat Server. Instructions for that can be found here.
- Open the Windows Search prompt by left-clicking on the magnifying glass icon next to the Start Menu

- Search for the word “environment” by typing it into the prompt and left-click on the “Edit environment variables for your account”option.
- This option will not require Administrator permissions. If you are prompted, please go back and choose the correct option.

- This will bring up the Environment Variables window. Left-Click on the New button to create a new environment variable

- Type in the variable prompts as shown below, then click OK
- Variable name: LSHOST
- Variable value: winstat.biostat.wisc.edu

- The new environment variable will show at the top of the menu. Click OK to exit this menu.

- You should now be able to launch StatXact Cytel Studio 12 successfully, without seeing a license error. You will only need to put in this environment variable once. All future logins should retain the variable.

License Error
If you see the prompt below, your environment variable is not present and you will need to follow the instructions above.
